The Vineyards
Located in the Sonoma Valley at the foot of Sugar Loaf Ridge, Chateau St. Jean is a 250-acre estate with 90 acres planted to wine grapes. Planted from 1988 to 1995, the St. Jean Estate Merlot comprises 24 acres of benchland fruit.
Winemaking
88% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc and 4% Malbec were fermented and aged separately for 28 months in small 100% French oak barrel (74% new). The Merlot lots that highlight the true character of the vineyard are selected and then blended with specific lots of Cabernet Franc and Malbec to produce the final wine.
Winetasting Comments
Vivid aromas of violets, cherry and lavender with notes of cedar spice jump from this St. Jean Estate Merlot. The plush palate has layers of red cherry jam and mocha flavors. The wine is well structured with supple tannins that compliment the smooth and long finish.
