"The 2009 Pinot Noir Reserve is a blend of fruit from Durell and Benoist Ranch. Broad, yet silky tannins support an expressive core of dark red fruit in this refined, highly expressive Pinot. The 2009 impresses for its juiciness and up-front accessibility. The wilder elements of Pinot have been fully tamed here. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2021."

"The 2007 Reserve Merlot is an exotic, beguiling wine. Firm, yet well-integrated tannins frame a core of expressive fruit. This is a surprisingly tannic Merlot that needs time in bottle to soften. Readers expecting a juicy, plush Merlot will need to look elsewhere, as this is a structured wine endowed with considerable energy and vibrancy. The 2007 includes 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine was aged in 100% new oak, which it seems to handle, although a little less new oak might have allowed the fruit to show more radiance. Anticipated Maturity: 2014-2022."

"The 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon Cinq Cépages is an explosive wine endowed with tons of depth and richness. It is an impeccably textured wine graced with notable size and elegance. Blackberry jam, savory herbs, graphite, tar and licorice inform the exuberant, polished finish. The 2008 relies heavily on fruit from vineyards in Knights Valley, with the addition of fruit from Alexander and Sonoma Valleys. In 2008 the blend is 78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Cabernet Franc, 5% Merlot, 4% Petit Verdot and 3% Malbec. Anticipated Maturity: 2013-2028."

This is the finest Cabernet Sauvignon crafted at Chateau St. Jean, period. The wine is aged in oak for three years before receiving an additional year of bottle age and its release always comes with joyous anticipation from staff and customers alike. The nose shows deep, dense and rich aromas of black fruits, anise and roasted coffee beans. A big soft entry begins with chocolate covered cherries and blackberries that surround lush tannins and exotic floral notes. Savory spices mixed with cassis and sweet tobacco continue throughout a long finish. This wine is built for ageing and will benefit from five to fifteen additional years in the bottle.  A very impressive cellar selection for the serious collector.

"The 2009 Pinot Noir Benoist Ranch shows the darker side of Pinot in its black cherries, plums, savory herbs, tar, ash and game. There is a hint of wildness to the 2009 that flows through to the virile, imposing finish. This deceptively round, supple Pinot is supported by plenty of structure. The Benoist Ranch spent 16 months in French oak. It could use another year or two in bottle as well. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2021."

The nose of this Pinot Noir is filled with inviting aromas of dried cranberries, black plums, ripe bing cherries, smoky oak, rose petals, cola, black tea, bacon, and barbequed meat.  In the mouth it's impeccably balanced, exotic, silky and supple, while displaying a beautiful core cherry-berry and earthy flavors.  Simply delicious.  This Pinot is more about grace than power - it's a textural wonder!

"The 2008 Syrah Benoist Ranch bursts onto the palate with explosive dark fruit, licorice, warmth of the year and the relative cooler qualities of the appellation. A plush, inviting finish rounds things out in style. The Benoist Ranch spent 24 months in French oak barrels, 73% new. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2020."

This Syrah is a terrific buy, year in, your out. The nose of this particular vintage displays blackcurrant, black cherries, cassis, violets, mint, coffee beans and coconut milk aromas. Deep purple in color, it's concentrated in the mouth with a very attractive and juicy texture. Well-balanced, this wine will benefit from short term cellaring as the tannins will gradually release delicious and complex ageing aromas. Very tasty by itself, it also pairs well with most barbequed meats.
