The 2010 Sonoma County Reserve Chardonnay is our 14th vintage of this wine. For this blend, we selected fruit from the critically acclaimed Robert Young Vineyard (56%) in the Alexander Valley and Cold Creek Ranch (25%) in the Sonoma Coast appellation along with supporting fruit from Durell Vineyard (10%) in Sonoma Valley and Belle Terre Vineyard (4%) in the Alexander Valley. This vintage also marks the addition of fruit from Westside Farms (5%) in the Russian River Valley.
As with previous vintages of Belle Terre Chardonnay this 2011 version opens with inviting aromas of ripe stone fruit, floral spice and sweet vanilla notes. The wine is medium-bodied and lush on the palate. The well-structured wine is balanced by ripe fruit characteristics and bright acidity. This Chardonnay offers intriguing flavors of crushed stone minerality along with mouthwatering Meyer lemon and pineapple flavors.
In a classic style for Pinot Blanc grapes from this vineyard, the wine opens with dreamy aromas of white peach, honeysuckle and green melon. A core of bright lemon and ripe pear flavors shaded with a spicy note of clove are framed in an elegant, silky texture. A balanced acidity keeps the purity of the fruit vibrant throughout the full finish.
The Chateau St. Jean Sonoma Coast Chardonnay is a very light gold color, dazzling in the glass. Inviting aromas of Meyer lemon, fresh kiwi and rain-soaked crushed stones lead to a delicate yet flavorful palate. Flavors of fresh nectarine, vanilla spice meet a decided core of bright acidity. The wine resembles a Chablis style, firm structure with beautiful fruit expression and a lingering finish.
