The grapes for this Pinot Noir were hand-picked from the celebrated Durell Vineyard located in the southwestern foothills of Sonoma Valley. The wine exhibits dense black fruit, cherry and spicy flavors with a smooth velvety texture.
Recognizable for its fine, elegant showiness, Durell Pinot Noir offers a lighter touch with lifted red aromas and flavors of ripe plums, cranberries, some blue fruit and sweet oak spice. A touch of white pepper and earthiness highlighted by mushroom lead to a richly textured wine with supple, soft and silky tannins and a lingering finish.
Overall, 2017 proved to be a slightly smaller yielding vintage but one of exceptional quality. A brief period of warm weather occurred during Labor Day weekend which accelerated the harvest in some areas. Temperatures subsided quickly, and the fruit was allowed to mature and ripen perfectly on the vines before harvest officially began. Overall, a quick and intense harvest, with all the fruit picked early in September. The quality of the vintage shows great flavor intensity, perfect ripening and maturity, lovely balance and complexity.
