2012 Benoist Ranch Syrah

The Benoist Ranch Syrah is an inky purple color in the glass and offers fresh aromas of blackberries, blueberry jam and accompanied by cocoa powder. Secondary notes of black tea and black pepper are noticeable and intrigue the nose. The aromas lead to a opulent palate where the concentrated black fruit flavors stand out. The wine is dense and rich, with smooth tannins surrounded by juicy fruit flavors and a lengthy finish.

2014 Alexander Valley Malbec

Winemaker Margo Van Staaveren has championed Malbec and believes the variety flourishes in Sonoma County at selected sites. It has become one of her favorite varieties to work with and bottle. The Malbec for this wine comes from the Asti Vineyard in the most northern part of the Alexander Valley.

The 2014 growing season was long and moderate producing rich, flavorful wines with balanced acidity. The Malbec fruit enjoyed the long hang time the season offered as well as the bright sunshine over the course of the dry summer. The resulting fruit that came into the winery had deep color, concentrated flavors and ripe tannins. The Alexander Valley Malbec was blended with a small amount of Cabernet Sauvignon (6%) to round out the final blend. The Malbec was aged for 16 months exclusively in small French oak barrels (43% new). Following aging, the wine was assembled, bottled and allowed to rest in the bottle an additional 5 months before release.

The 2014 Alexander Valley Malbec is an intensely deep purple color in the glass with vibrant aromas of fresh berry compote, ripe plum and violet candy. The inviting aromas lead to a plush mid-palate with a juicy fruit core with flavors of plum and bright boysenberry. The wine has a firm structure with well-balanced acidity giving it lift. The wine offers a long and exceedingly flavorful finish with notes of smoked meats and spice.

2014 Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon

For this bottling, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Malbec grapes were drawn from vineyards in Alexander Valley, Sonoma Valley and Dry Creek Valley to craft this superior Cabernet Sauvignon. The 2013 vintage was a long and moderate growing season which allowed for gradual flavor development producing fruit with expressive flavors, deep concentration of color and natural acidity. Opens with vivid aromas of boysenberry and blackberry jam. The appealing fruit aromas are enhanced with brown spice notes of clove and nutmeg. The nose leads to a plush, well-structured wine with a bright fruit core and warm vanilla spice. The rich and flavorful palate has smooth tannins and a lingering finish.
