Winery Exclusive: This release is available only at the Chateau St. Jean Visitors Center or on our online wine shop.

The 2012 vintage is an outstanding representation of St. Jean's Reserve Chardonnay. Aromas of fresh made lemon curd, toasted hazelnuts and tropical fruit notes of pineapple and mango lead to complex palate with layers of flavors including orange blossom, lemon zest, toasted butter and baking spice. The well structured wine is balanced with a rich texture and expressive acidity. The bright finish lingers with a classic lemon oil flavor.

Production Note

Classic winemaking techniques such as sur lie aging for 16 months are used for this wine. Each lot is kept separate throughout the winemaking process and aged in 100% French oak (65% new). A barrel selection from each lot is made to craft the final blend. Winemaker Margo Van Staaveren prefers to give the Reserve Chardonnay a year of bottle age before it's released.

Vineyard Note

Chateau St. Jean's Reserve wines are crafted by selecting the vineyard lots from throughout Sonoma County that offer the most generous fruit expression and the ability to age. The 2012 Sonoma County Reserve Chardonnay is our 15th vintage of this wine. For this blend, we selected fruit from the critically acclaimed Robert Young Vineyard (45%) in the Alexander Valley and Cold Creek Ranch (18%) in the Sonoma Coast appellation along with supporting fruit from Westside Farms ( 15%) in the Russian River Valley, Durell Vineyard (13%) in Sonoma Valley and Belle Terre Vineyard (9%) in the Alexander Valley.
