Vintage 2014
Wine Type Red
Varietal Syrah
Region Sonoma Coast
Winemaker Margo Van Staaveren
The Benoist Ranch Syrah is a deep inky violet color in the glass and offers juicy aromas of wild blackberry and black currant, accompanied by savory Herbs de Provence notes of lavender and sage. Secondary notes of dark chocolate and black pepper are also noticeable and invite you to taste and explore this mysterious wine. The palate is opulent and rich with concentrated black fruit flavors and more mouth-coating chocolate notes. The wine is dense and full, with smooth velvety tannins surrounded by juicy dark fruit flavors and a tremendously lengthy finish.

Wine Advocate - 93 Points

"Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2014 Syrah Benoist Ranch has notes of preserved plums, blueberry pie and black forest cake with hints of Indian spices, violets and charcoal. Medium to full-bodied, the structure on the mouth is seamless and fine, defining the berry preserves flavors and finishing long and perfumed." - Lisa Perrotti-Brown, Wine Advocate

Vineyard Note

The Benoist Ranch is located in the coveted Sonoma Coast appellation where maritime influences produce Syrah with concentrated red raspberry and blackberry jam flavors while maintaining bright natural acidity.

Winemaker's Note

After primary fermentation, the wine was drained from the skins and sent to barrel. We carefully selected the barrels used for this Syrah to frame and enhance the rich, jam-like fruit from the vineyard and to help develop richness and integration with the oak components. The wine was aged 24 months in exclusively French oak with 31% of the barrels being new. The wine was then assembled and bottled.
