Vintage 2015
Wine Type Red
Varietal Pinot Noir
Region Sonoma County
Winemaker Margo Van Staaveren
The Benoist ranch is located in the coveted Sonoma Coast appellation where maritime influences produce Pinot Noir with concentrated black cherry and plum flavors and rich earthy aromas. French oak aging integrates and refines the tannins, creating a silky texture that wraps around the jammy fruit core.

Tasting Notes

Inviting aromas and flavors of cranberry, raspberry and herbs highlight the wine, with a lingering sense of minerality, wet stone and oak spice. Well-balanced, lighter in color and weight, with well-integrated tannins and bright acidity common to the Carneros side of the Sonoma Coast. Enjoyable and inviting from the sustainably farmed Benoist Ranch close by many notable vineyards, including Durell.

Vineyard Notes

The Benoist Ranch is located in the coveted Sonoma Coast appellation where maritime influences from both the Pacific Ocean and San Pablo Bay produce Pinot Noir with concentrated black cherry and plum flavors and rich, earthy aromas. This wine is a blend of the Martini clone and several Dijon clones

Vintage Notes

The 2015 growing season was another beautiful vintage with mild temperatures and no weather upsets throughout. The season got off to an early start in the spring and continued through to an early start of harvest with dry and uniform weather.  The resulting grapes, although overall yields were slightly down, were of very high quality.

Winemaking Notes

After primary fermentation, the wine is drained from the skins and sent to barrel the next day. The malolactic fermentation occurs in the barrels and lasts for a month enabling us to retain all of the fruit character from the vineyard and develop richness and integration with the oak components. The wine was aged 17 months in 100% French oak barrels with 54% of those barrels being new.
