The Benoist Ranch is located in the coveted Sonoma Coast appellation where maritime influences produce Syrah with concentrated red raspberry and blackberry jam flavors and notes of milk chocolate.

Tasting Notes

The Benoist Ranch Syrah is an inky purple color in the glass and offers fresh aromas of blackberries, blueberry jam and accompanied by cocoa powder. Secondary notes of black tea and black pepper are noticeable and intrigue in the nose. The aromas lead to a opulent palate where the concentrated black fruit flavors stand out. The wine is dense and rich, with smooth tannins surrounded by juicy fruit flavors and a lengthy finish.

Vineyard Notes

The Benoist Ranch is located in the coveted Sonoma Coast appellation where maritime influences produce Syrah with concentrated red raspberry and blackberry jam flavors while maintaining bright natural acidity.

Vintage Notes

Sonoma County enjoyed almost ideal growing and harvest conditions for vintage 2013. The season got off to an early start in the spring and continued through to harvest with dry and uniform weather. The resulting wines show balance and richness.

Winemaking Notes

After primary fermentation, the wine was drained from the skins and sent to barrel. We carefully selected the barrels used for this Syrah to frame and enhance the rich, jam-like fruit from the vineyard and to help develop richness and integration with the oak components. The wine was aged 24 months in exclusively French oak with 31% of the barrels being new. The wine was then assembled and bottled.
