Vintage 2016
Wine Type White
Varietal Fume Blanc
Region Alexander Valley
Winemaker Margo Van Staaveren
This classic Fumé Blanc has inviting aromas of green tea, lemongrass, and subtle, yet intriguing, ginger and tamarind spice notes. The nose leads to an expressive palate with sweet fruit flavors of apple, kiwi and pear. The wine has a rich, full mouthfeel and is well-balanced with refreshing acidity and a long finish.

Tasting Note

This  rare  single  vineyard  Fumé  Blanc  boasts  fragrant  aromas  of  stone  fruits,  lemon  citrus peel and hints of green tea. The wine is fresh and refined, almost delicate, and very elegant with a flavorful palate of white peach and kiwi fruit. The wine is balanced by a racy core of acidity, adding notes of minerality, and a crisp, clean finish.

Vineyard Note

The Lyon Vineyard is located in the most northern part of the Alexander Valley, adjacent to the Russian River. Chateau St. Jean has a long term relationship with grower Mark Lyon that dates back to 1980. We launched this single-vineyard Fumé Blanc with the 2006 vintage.

Winemaker's Note

The majority of the wine (89%) was tank fermented to retain the fresh, forward fruit flavors that are indicative of this vineyard. The balance of the blend (11%) was barrel fermented in French oak. The barrel portion was aged sur lie for nine months to add texture and creaminess.
