Vineyard Note

The  Lyon  Vineyard  lies  in  the  northernmost  part  of  the  Alexander  Valley,  adjacent  to  the  Russian  River.  The  inaugural  vintage  of  this  vineyard  designate  was  2006,  and  it  remains  one  of  the  winery’s  most  popular  wines,  consistently  receiving  top  acclaim  for  its  distinct  expression of Alexander Valley.

Vintage Note

Overall, 2017 proved to be a slightly smaller yielding vintage but one of exceptional quality. Warm late summer temperatures led to a quick and intense harvest. The fruit matured and ripened  perfectly  on  the  vines  before  harvest  officially  began.  The  quality  of  the  vintage  shows great flavor intensity, perfect ripening and maturity, lovely balance and complexity.

Winemaker's Note

Most  of  the  wine  (83%)  was  tank  fermented  to  retain  the  fresh,  forward  fruit  flavors  that are indicative of this vineyard. The balance of the blend (17%) was barrel fermented in  neutral  French  oak.  The  barrel  portion  was  aged  sur  lie  for  eight  months  to  add  texture and creaminess.

Tasting Note

A lovely pale gold color leads to fragrant aromas of orange blossom, floral notes and ripe apricot  with  a  hint  of  spice.  Spirited  in  the  glass,  the  wine  is  crisp  and  refreshing  with  racy  acidity  and  flavors  of  green  apple,  citrus,  and  apricot  with  almond  and  spice  rounding  out  the  palate.  There’s  a  slight  minerality  in  the  surprisingly  round  and  full  mouthfeel, leading to a lingering finish.
