Vintage 2018
Wine Type White
Varietal Fume Blanc
Region Alexander Valley
Winemaker Margo Van Staaveren
This classic Fumé Blanc has inviting aromas of orange blossom, f loral notes and ripe apricot  with  a  hint  of  spice.  Spirited  in  the  glass,  the  wine  is  crisp  and  refreshing  with  racy  acidity  and  f lavors  of  green  apple,  citrus,  and  apricot  with  almond  and  spice  rounding  out  the  palate.  There’s  a  slight  minerality  in  the  surprisingly  round  and  full  mouthfeel, leading to a lingering finish.

Tasting Note

In the glass, the wine portrays a pale gold, almost straw-like quality. The aromas seem to jump from the glass with notes of white flowers, ripe orange citrus, and apricot. A slight hint of spice is indicative of many fumé blancs. On the palate, bright citrus notes reappear with pommes fruit flavors. After the fruit flavors fade, secondary notes of spice appear, allowing a well-rounded long finish.

Vintage Note

Alexander Valley enjoyed a stunning, near perfect 2018 growing season of winter rains, mild spring weather and steady temperatures allowing even flowering and bud break. These ideal conditions were followed by a cool, and slow-paced harvest allowing the wines to vinify at a gentle pace. The resulting wines are very high quality with lower alcohol, concentrated flavors, color and excellent acidity.

Winemaking Notes

Most of the wine was tank fermented to retain fresh, forward fruit flavors indicative of this vineyard. The balance was barrel fermented in neutral French oak. The barrel portion was aged sur lie eight months adding texture and creaminess.
